Guns, Some Tools Do Not go into the Toolbox

By: JBH Wonders, 7/2011

Do you have any guns in your house? This is a rhetorical question since it is none of my business nor that of anyone else.

I have had several guns over the years-different types made by different manufacturers. In my youth, Dad taught me how to take care of many types of guns and how to use them safely. Accidents do happen sometimes of course but because of my training, the very few accidents that occurred in my case were minimal in severity and no one was ever hurt.

So at the risk of being labeled “one of those gun nuts”, I’m giving a list of some of the guns I’ve owned and/or used over the years. These are: Staple Gun, Soldering Gun, Shot Gun, Paint/Spray Gun, Caulking Gun, BB Gun, Nail Gun, Hand Gun, Glue Gun, Rifle (Gun), ESD Gun, Grease Gun, etc, etc, etc.

You will note that all of these “Guns” are tools; including the Shot Gun, Hand Gun and Rifle (Gun). The BB Gun is also a tool in the sense that it is a training aid for other “guns”. All of these tools are inanimate objects, totally harmless and useless unless someone skilled with handling them picks them up for use. And, all of them have some inherent danger when used improperly by someone incompetent, childish or malicious.

So I write this article for those who hate guns, are squeamish about them or think that only law enforcement and other government type people should be “allowed” to have them. I write this in an attempt to explain to these folks that there is nothing to fear from the responsible gun (firearm) owners in this country (some statistics state 80 million or so). Statistics also show that any sort of gun control anywhere in the world has thus far resulted in a negative effect on controlling gun (firearm) violence.

It is really tempting here to recite the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of these united states of America, but I won’t. Suffice to say that it clearly states that gun ownership is one of our inalienable rights  recognized (not granted) by the Constitution. Owning guns is one of our rights and a numerous group of folks in America will have “arms” (firearms included) regardless of what anyone else thinks about it.

In closing, I will say this: I would only be in favor of a total gun (firearm) ban only under ALL of these conditions:

  1. Absolutely no one can have any. This includes law enforcement, military, and all government agencies all over the earth.
  2. All governments are at peace with and exist in harmony with all of the world populace (ha, ha)
  3. The wild animal population is controlled by some humane and responsible manner.
  4. All of the dangerous wild animals are tamed, locked up, or otherwise kept away from people.
  5. Meat will be so safe to acquire and plentiful in the marketplace so that hunting for wild game is not necessary.
  6. Anyone that pulls out a firearm is immediately incinerated by a Laser beam emanating from a satellite. (This must have a 200% success rate).
  7. A wearable “forcefield” is available for repelling any object being used as an attempt to inflict bodily harm.
The above items are totally preposterous of course, so I stand pat on what was stated previously.
